“The Artist’s Wife in Paris” contemporary figurative painting
I recently spent some time looking at some of Degas’s pastels at the Musee d’Orsay. I wasn’t intending to paint in the style of pastels, not consciously, and at the beginning I had conceived of a different treatment for the cityscape. My wife’s face and her skin and the blue dress are haunting to me. I was very pleased with this painting, although I see shortcomings over most of the canvas. I am in the process of arranging things where I can spend more time on each work. I can’t put into words the number of paintings in my head right now, with many different variations for each composition. The coming months should be extremely productive.
