“North Mississippi Backyard Ro-mance” contemporary figurative painting
Here is the poem I am writing for this painting in “Riverson, The Painted Book.”
North Mississippi Backyard Ro-mance
Late Tuesday afternoon,
that day we stayed home,
you were hanging out the clothes,
while I was weeding peas.
Then you brought out a blanket
and laid it on the grass.
We drank beer and talked,
while the daylight faded away.
Then the Mosquitoes came and ran us to the porch,
and we made love.
to the sound of crickets.
