“New York Tearoom” contemporary figurative painting
I am often in the city either on art trips or to see my inlaws. I love the art in New York, and the delis and coffee shops are nice too.
I am rapidly learning how to use glazes and dilutions to acheive the varigated hues that eluded me for years. This painting glows beautifully in soft light. I was reluctant to do anything that might dull or otherwise distract from the glowing colors I had created, and so I relied heavily on drawing and outlining to render my figures as opposed to rendering in the paint itself. I am sure I will become more confident over the coming weeks and render more dimensionally, but I feel like this more primitive style suites me fine. All I’ve ever wanted to be is a caveman and create beautiful images in an honest, expressive way. When I see this painting, I feel like I am getting very close.
