“Little Ballerina” contemporary figurative painting
“Little Ballerina” is a painting from the imagination. It was executed quickly with minimal use of models, so in some ways it is a little flat, and it may serve best as a study for a later painting. As a painter, I am disappointed in the lack of detail and shading in the figure (I’m not sure if it is a little girl or an old man), but this flatness may actually contribute to the melancholy mood I was trying to capture. For whatever technical failings, the painting may be a success in the sense that it does convey the ambiguity and the strangeness of the image that was in my head.
