It must be pretty difficult these days for an artist interested in Dada.  How do they compete with all the nonsense of TV and mainstream consumer culture?  How do you top endless commercials for erectile dysfunction during prime-time? What could be more absurd and amoral than the average commercial for a full-sized SUV?  You can’t make up stuff that good.

I think visionary folk artists may be in a similar situation.  What I mean is, how can you walk around with a sign that says “The End is Near” when that is what all the so-called politicians and so-called journalists are doing?  You can’t compete with the level of millennial hysteria these guys are trying to create.

I think we may be better off without the notion of America as a chosen nation.  I think the idea causes people to do stupid and lazy things like have blind faith in leaders just because they say the “right” things.  I think our churches have been high-jacked by politicians.  I think these Fundamentalists are using an Apocalypse of their own making to manipulate people with fear.
