“Golden Girl” contemporary figurative painting
This painting was modeled loosely after a photo of my friend Kerry’s daughter looking at a lotus. I wasn’t concerned with capturing likeness, and the painting took on a life of it’s own, as my paintings usually do. I was almost startled when I finished painting and realized that I recognized the face in the painting, a face I haven’t seen in 15 years or so. It’s eerie and profound what can spring out of your art when you do something other than carefully-planned renderings. I think that’s why I haven’t spent much time pursuing naturalism.
