“Fossil Crusader” contemporary figurative painting
The last cowboy of the old west jousts with a nuclear dragon.
The prophets of the Old Testament weren’t clean-cut or self-righteous or anything like the modern televangelists. They weren’t salesmen interested in building large congregations of followers. Instead, they were wild outsiders who challenged the popular notions of their day, often in harsh or even rude language. Many times the prophets were critical of kings and other leaders, especially when these leaders claimed to rule in the name of God.
Now if the televangelists are right, God has suddenly changed His tune. Suddenly God wants us to put all our faith in corporate CEOs. Suddenly we are supposed to listen to every word the king says as if it were the gospel. Suddenly we are supposed to look the other way.
I think people have given the Sheriff enough benefit of the doubt. I think it’s high time to judge the tree by its fruit.
