Georgia Map Mosaic Art
Georgia Map is one of my more recent mosaics (late summer 2004), and it is very textural. The blue rivers flow through low valleys between the stones and china. It was made by placing the pieces in thinset bonding mortar (concrete). This allows the use pieces of different thickness and pieces without flat bottoms.
This was made for my friend Andrew Burke for his new ice cream shop in Decatur, Georgia. I guess the wood burning around the frame is a nod of acknowledgement toward Howard Finster. After all, it is a mosaic map of Georgia made from found objects.
