I don’t think most people would mind the fascist methods of the Bush administration if he actually knew what he was doing.  I don’t think people expect a kinder, gentler world, and I don’t think they object to Bush’s policies on moral grounds so much as they do for his gross incompetence.

My favorite are the conspiracy freaks that claim that 9-11 was an inside job orchestrated by the president himself.  They have a hell of a lot more faith in the abilities of the Bush administration than I do.  Bush’s policies are based on little more than jingoes and reflect an ignorance of history and how things are implemented on the ground.  Bush is a typical CEO who is so insulated from day-to-day realities that he has come to believe his own spin.
